How do we provide early literacy support for families/caregivers?
How do we provide early literacy support for service providers?
- We provide a strength-based approach to helping families develop effective literacy practices in their homes starting at birth, which will enhance the literacy and math skills of both the child and the parent
- Our programs are delivered in partnership with Ontario Early Years and other community agencies
Who do we serve (our target population)?
- Low-literate Families and ESL Families who have children aged birth to 6
Where can you find us?
- Get Set Learn and Get Set Learn Afterschool programs are offered at various community centres and schools throughout Waterloo Region
How do we provide early literacy support for families/caregivers?
- Get Set Learn and Get Set Learn Afterschool are free programs offered for parents and their children who do not have the necessary English skills to function effectively on a daily basis
- Get Set Learn is a program for parents with children birth to 6 years who are receiving Ontario Works
- Get Set Learn Afterschool is a program for parents and their children birth to age 12
- Provide books, snacks, and information for families
- Refer families to other service providers in Waterloo Region
How do we provide early literacy support for service providers?
- Certification on both programs for professionals
- Family literacy resources for practitioners available for purchase
- Family literacy experts available to answer questions from parents trying to support children aged birth to 6
