What is Region of Waterloo Home Child Care's role in early literacy?

One of Home Child Care's roles is to educate caregivers and families about emergent literacy through information provided in newsletters and workshops
Caseworkers’ help caregivers develop an awareness of communication milestones in children 0-6 years plus make referrals to appropriate community agencies

Who do we serve (our target population)?

Providing licensed home child care for children whose families are eligible for child care subsidy; seven days per week, up to 24 hours per day
Children 0-12 years

400 plus approved Home Child Care Residences in the Region of Waterloo Including Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge and surrounding communities

How do we provide early literacy support for families/caregivers?

Referrals made for speech and language assessments via the SPOT program
Provision of information about emergent literacy via newsletters and programs offered by other community agencies in Waterloo Region
Licensed home child care (seven days per week, up to 24 hours a day) for children whose families are eligible for child care subsidy
