What is the Salvation Army Parent and Child Resource Centre's role in early literacy?
- provides training and free literacy tool kits to parents/caregivers to
improve their knowledge of and engagment in early literacy skill
development - the toolkit may include
books, a cd, a dvd, manipulative and/or print materials
Who do we serve (our target population)?
- parents/caregivers with children up to age six; universal access
Where can you find us?
- Main site; 75 Tillsley Dr Kitchener
- Satellite sites: the Salvation Army Kitchener Waterloo Community and Family Services at 300 Gage St. Kitchener and at Centreville-Chicopee Community Centre
How do we provide early literacy support for families/caregivers?
By offering:
- a variety of literacy specific programs such as; Family Math, Building Blocks, Toddler Wonders, Baby Song
- School readiness programs
- ECE led child-care program (incorporating literacy principles) for all parent support programs
- Programming is available Monday - Friday and includes; Parents Support Groups, Craft Groups, Inspiration Groups, Fitness Groups, Nutrition Groups
How do we provide early literacy support for service providers?
- Receiving referrals for the parenting and literacy classes offered at the SAPCRC
- Staff of SAPCRC can come to other centres and facilitate programming
