How do we provide early literacy support for service providers?
- Promote early literacy development within the implemenation of the Full-Day Early Learning--Kindergarten Program and the Full Day/Alternate Day Kindergarten Program
- We emphasize the importance of literacy throughout the Elementary School years across school curriculum
- Literacy Consultant provides parents with information about Literacy Events, Family Literacy Opportunities or Community Events via School Newsletters or the Board website
- Intervention Programs for Gr. 1 - 8 students: Corrective Reading, Skills Builder, Empower

- Elementary School sites: Junior Kindergarten – Grade 8 ( Ages 3-14)

- 46 Elementary School sites in the Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge areas

- Partnership with Welcome to Kindergarten Program
- Home Reading Programs
- In-school Library
- Family Literacy Nights (at some schools)
- Literacy Consultant: JK-8
- Literacy/Numeracy Support Teachers, Special Education, Resource Teachers
- Speech and Language Pathologist Supports
- Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences
- School Councils
- Emergent literacy is specifically supported by print-rich environments that embed literacy throughout the day and across subject areas
