- Promote early literacy development within the implemtation of the Full-Day Learning Early Learning--Kindergarten Program and the Full Day/Alternate Day Kindergarten Program
- Waterloo Catholic District School Board identifies and assesses children with communication delays in Junior Kindergarten to grade four
- We also consult with staff and families regarding strategies to promote literacy skills in the classroom

- Children with suspected or identified communication delays enrolled in the Catholic School Board in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 4 classrooms

- Speech-Language Services offered at 45 Waterloo Catholic elementary schools in the district
How do we provide early literacy support for families/caregivers?
- Assessment of speech, language, communication and literacy by a Speech-Language Pathologist
- Intervention including classroom consultation, programming support, consultation with school staff and families and individual intervention with a Speech-Language Assistant
- Information is given to staff and families around the link between oral language skills and literacy development
- Literacy/Numeracy Support Teachers, Special Education Resource Teachers
How do we provide early literacy support for service providers?
- Speech-Language Pathologists works with learning services staff to promote early literacy opportunities for elementary school staff
- Provide workshops and strategies for classroom teachers to reinforce reciprocity between language and literacy development
- SLP’s have initiated Learning Language and Loving It training for 10 teams of classroom teachers and early childhood educators (December 2011-April 2012)
